“For an industry that’s still lacking a strong number of strong women, Girls Rock S.B. is a big step in the right direction. And for Santa Barbara, it’s another great presence in the scene. “It’s not just a camp,” said Baron. “It’s really an experience: a chance to release your inner rocker and stomp your feet onstage and say to the world, ‘This is me, and what I do matters!’”
“Jen Baron, executive manager of Girls Rock SB!, believes that, “This benefit show will not only be an amazing performance to watch, but it will further showcase our goal to inspire young girls and show them that they have the power to be great musicians.”
Who is Girls Rock SB?
“We are a non-profit organization that empowers girls through music, promoting an environment that fosters self-confidence, creativity and teamwork. GRSB challenges gender stereotypes, encourage collaboration and tolerance among peers, and provides a comfortable space for people of all backgrounds to express themselves. Through music lessons, workshops, group activities and performance, girls acquire skills that help guide them throughout their lives.”
“After a much needed cupcake break (donation for a good cause), act two began. Act two was stellar. In fact, I’m hard pressed to choose a favorite between the first and the last performance. But I always have to choose a favorite.”
“It all started my first quarter here,” explains Jen. “I was taking Educational Foundations, feeling nervous to be a returning college student. The emphasis that Antioch places on social justice completely floored me! I walked out of that class feeling confident, focused and very inspired to create something wonderful for our community. I’m a musician, so merging music with social justice seemed like a perfect fit!”
