A 12-week program that gives girls the opportunity to photograph a live show and have their piece published In the Santa Barbara Independent and SB Sentinel. They will also be paired up with one of our music journalism students to compliment their art with a written representation of the event. Photography students are immersed in the art and craft of still photography in the digital age and are introduced to the tools necessary to capture great images and refine them through digital imaging.

Students develop the skills necessary to research, compose, and capture digital photographic projects in a hands-on course. Students are encouraged to be creative, but are also taught to think of each project as a concise statement of artistic, documentary, and/or journalistic intent. They expand their repertoire of techniques with light and shadow as they work with professional lighting and grip hardware, as well as inexpensive and unconventional practical sources of light and shadow.

No significant prior experience in photography is assumed. The program brings everyone to the same level very quickly, beginning with the fundamentals and filling the inevitable gaps in the understanding of those who have some experience.

Girls Rock SB programs encourage girls to be confident in their own skin, to know they are enough in all that they do, and to follow their passions, whatever they may be. We recruit instructors from the world's leading music conservatories, and while they are of course extremely talented musicians and teachers, they are even more incredible human beings and mentors to our community's girls.  IHEARTGIRLSROCK4
